How to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit
Enter a temperature in °C and the °F value appears instantly, along with the step-by-step working, the Kelvin value and a mental-math estimate. Use it for weather abroad, a European recipe in an American oven, or a thermometer set to Celsius.
Celsius to Fahrenheit formula
°F = °C × 9/5 + 32 = °C × 1.8 + 32
Between freezing (0 °C = 32 °F) and boiling (100 °C = 212 °F) there are 100 Celsius degrees and 180 Fahrenheit degrees, so each °C is 1.8 °F, and the scales are offset by 32. Example: 25 °C → 25 × 1.8 = 45 → 45 + 32 = 77 °F.
Body temperature and fever
The classic "normal" body temperature of 98.6 °F is 37 °C; many people actually run slightly lower, around 36.5 °C (97.7 °F). US health agencies such as the CDC commonly use 100.4 °F (38 °C) as the fever threshold. Readings vary by method — oral, ear, forehead and armpit can differ by about half a degree Celsius.
Oven temperatures
US recipes give oven temperatures in 25 °F steps (325, 350, 375, 400 °F). When converting a Celsius recipe, round to the nearest step: 180 °C = 356 °F → 350 °F, and 200 °C = 392 °F → 400 °F. Many recipes written for fan (convection) ovens use about 20 °C (25 °F) lower than conventional ovens, so check which one the recipe assumes.
Mental math
Double it and add 30. 20 °C → 70 °F (exact 68), 30 °C → 90 °F (exact 86). It is most accurate around 10 °C and overestimates more at higher temperatures, so use the real formula for oven temperatures.
Converting a temperature change
"5 °C warmer than yesterday" is 5 × 1.8 = 9 °F warmer — do not add 32. Only add 32 when converting an actual temperature reading, not a difference.
