↵ Remove Line Breaks
Fix text that breaks in the middle of every sentence after you copy it from a PDF. Join lines with a space, a comma or nothing — while keeping real paragraphs intact.
How to remove line breaks
- Paste text copied from a PDF, an email, a chat or a spreadsheet column.
- Choose whether line breaks become a space, nothing, or a separator such as a comma.
- Leave Keep paragraphs on to preserve real paragraph breaks, then copy the result into your document, email or translator.
Why does text from a PDF break into short lines?
A PDF doesn't store paragraphs — it stores characters at fixed positions on a page. When you copy, every visual line ending turns into a real line break, so pasting into Word, Google Docs or an email leaves each sentence chopped into pieces. Translators like Google Translate and DeepL treat each line break as the end of a sentence, which noticeably hurts translation quality.
This tool removes the line breaks inside sentences and keeps the blank lines that mark real paragraphs. If the original PDF had no blank lines between paragraphs, those breaks can't be detected — add them back by hand where needed.
Options at a glance
| Option | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|
| A space | broken in the⏎middle | broken in the middle |
| Nothing (join) | https://exam⏎ple.com | https://example.com |
| Separator (comma) | apple⏎banana⏎cherry | apple, banana, cherry |
| Rejoin hyphenated words | infor-⏎mation | information |
| Keep list lines | Intro⏎- item 1⏎- item 2 | Line breaks before list items stay |
- Nothing (join) glues the last word of one line to the first word of the next. For normal sentences "A space" is right; use "Nothing" only for numbers, URLs or code that were split across lines.
- Rejoin hyphenated words only removes the hyphen when a line ends in
letter-and the next line starts with a lowercase letter, sowell-⏎Knownis left alone. Real compound words split at a hyphen (long-⏎term) will lose their hyphen — check those. - A separator is handy for turning a spreadsheet column into a comma-separated list, a SQL
IN (…)clause or a list of hashtags. Choose tab to paste the values into a single row.
Cleaning up emails and chat messages
Plain-text email clients often hard-wrap lines at 70–80 characters and prefix quoted text with >. "A space" + "Keep paragraphs" fixes those in one pass. Going the other way, if you received a list one item per line in Slack or Teams and want to share it on one line, use "A separator" with a comma or slash. The number of lines and removed line breaks appears under the output.
Some PDFs also insert extra spaces inside words. After removing line breaks, run the result through Remove Extra Spaces. Your text stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
