Work 15+ hours a week in Korea? You are owed an extra paid day off each week — weekly holiday pay (주휴수당, juhyu sudang). Enter your hourly wage and weekly hours to see it.
What is weekly holiday pay?
Under Korea's Labor Standards Act, a worker who completes all scheduled working days in a week is entitled to one paid day off per week (주휴일). The pay for that day is weekly holiday pay (주휴수당). It applies at workplaces of any size and to part-timers (아르바이트) as well as full-time staff — including foreign workers and students on D-2/D-4 visas with a part-time work permit.
Eligibility
- Contractual working hours of 15 hours or more per week (averaged over 4 weeks).
- Full attendance on all scheduled days that week. Being late or leaving early is not an absence.
- You are expected to keep working the following week (the final week of a job may not count).
Formula
Weekly holiday pay = (weekly contractual hours ÷ 40) × 8 × hourly wage
The paid holiday is capped at 8 hours, reached at 40 hours a week.
| Hours / week | Holiday hours | Holiday pay at ₩10,320 |
|---|---|---|
| 14 | 0 | ₩0 (not eligible) |
| 15 | 3 | ₩30,960 |
| 20 | 4 | ₩41,280 |
| 30 | 6 | ₩61,920 |
| 40 | 8 | ₩82,560 |
Tips
- The 15-hour line — 14.5 hours a week means no holiday pay, severance or annual leave. Check the contractual hours in your contract, not just the hours you actually worked.
- "Hourly wage including holiday pay" — for a 40-hour week holiday pay adds 20%, so the real minimum is about ₩12,384/hour if a job ad says the wage already includes juhyu sudang.
- Unpaid holiday pay — you can claim it for up to 3 years. Report it to the Ministry of Employment and Labor (call 1350; interpreters available).
Based on the 2026 minimum wage of ₩10,320 per hour (₩2,156,880 per month at 209 hours). The minimum wage changes every January.
